From the Amazon to Everest to South Africa, you’ll meet extraordinary people doing incredible things. Along the way, you’ll be challenged to push your creative limits, learn new skills, and make films that resonate.

Imagine capturing the struggle and triumph of an all-female anti-poaching unit in South Africa, who risk everything to protect endangered species.

Filming Sherpas who scale Everest like it’s a daily commute, their stories echoing the call of the mountains.

Engaging with non-profit leaders in the Sahara who are tirelessly working to create sustainable futures for their communities.

Documenting tribes in the Amazon who hold the secrets to our planet’s survival.

How it works

Phase 1: Apply to join the challenge

To offer a highly personalized growth experience, the Filmmaker Challenge selects only 10 participants per challenge from thousands of applications.
Regardless of your current technical filmmaking skills, we are looking to work solely with highly driven individuals who are willing and able to put in the necessary work to launch their new Nomad Filmmaking journey while contributing to our exclusive community.
We will get on a call to get to know you before the start of the challenge.
Phase 2: Learn the Technical & Creative

It comes as no surprise that filmmaking requires a lot of technical knowledge. To optimize the quality of your content you will receive an online course prior to the in-person event.
By the end of this course, you will know your manual camera settings, how to edit using professional software, and the basics of cinematography.
This can be done at your own pace and should take approximately 14 days.
Phase 3: Create & Travel with us

Get your passport ready. You are flying to meet us at one of Selina's hotel destinations to create the most valuable asset for Nomad Filmmakers — your Nomad Film.
We strongly believe that the most effective way to learn is by doing. This is why, from the moment you land, you will be treated as the professional Nomad Filmmaker mandated to create content for the hotel.
Every day, we will challenge you to push your creative boundaries to reach your full potential while providing professional guidance.
Phase 4: Grow your business

Now that you know the technical and creative aspects of Nomad Filmmaking, it’s time to get business savvy.
During a whole month following the Filmmaker Challenge event, you will learn how to reach out to global brands, create high-converting funnels and your portfolio, get your contract templates, invoices, pitch decks, and everything you need to thrive as a Nomad Filmmaker.
The business workshops are conducted from home during live training sessions.
Phase 5: Get exclusive brand deals

Finishing the Filmmaker Challenge does come with its perks! At the end of the challenge, every new Nomad Filmmaker will be invited to join the exclusive Content Creator Program by Selina Hotels, which enables you to stay for free at any of their 130 worldwide destinations in exchange for travel videos.
On top of that, one Nomad Filmmaker per Filmmaker Challenge will be selected to join the prized Film Residency, which enables the winner to create short films abroad. (More on that in our call)
